Therapy - Implants
An implant is "a new root” which is inserted into a missing tooth place. It is a small screw with dimension of around 2.8-6 mm and length from 5 to 21 mm. This element is supposed to replace a natural root of a tooth, that is why it resembles its shape. It is made of titanium, a material tolerated by living tissue and completely biocompatible.

Implants are used in order to refill missing teeth. :
  • a lack of single tooth
  • a lack of a few teeth
  • anodontia

We invite you to see a short presentation of dental implants.

The treatment usually takes 20-50 minutes (it depends on the number of inserted implants) and is done in local anesthesia, which makes it totally painless.
Contemporary dentistry offers many solutions which, well selected for a particular patient, give an inimitable aesthetic result.
In a simplification implantology can be divided into:
During one visit a dentist takes out a tooth and inserts an implant in its place. Then it is usually necessary to use biomaterial. A natural root is a little wider than an implant, that is why a post-extraction gap must be filled with biomaterial. However, this procedure cannot be done in all cases. A decision about the kind of implantation must be taken by a doctor.
A dentist takes out a tooth and when extraction needs removing a big part of a bone, it must be reconstructed. An artificial bone is inserted and then the place is left for maximum 6 months. After this period an implant can be implemented.
When there is enough bone to insert an implant directly after an extraction, then it is done and it is left for 6 months. After this period an implant is perfectly integrated with a bone and prosthodontical reconstruction can begin (connector and crown).

In each of the cases described above our patient immediately gets temporary crowns (provisional crowns), especially in situations when implantation is done in important places, aesthetically and functionally.

In our clinic we successfully use 2 implantological systems, which are among top leaders of implant producers in the world.
  • AstraTech, innovative implants made in Sweden. Their innovation and reliability have been proved in numerous scientific publications. IMPORTANT NOTE: They have a lifetime guarantee.
  • Nobel Biocare, implants made by a Swedish company. With a 10-year guarantee (in 2009 our surgeon inserted most of these implants).

Before the treatment every patient is asked to fill in a detailed medical questionnaire, then a panthomographic picture is taken (RVG) and in some cases a tomography is conducted (CT). Next, a surgeon carries out a physical examination and analyses the medical interview together with the patient. At the end of the consultation visit a doctor presents the most optimum form of treatment to the patient, as well as cost estimate.

A patient decides about the quality of the prosthodontical work. They can choose a highly aesthetic, fully ceramic prosthodontical work or one on metal substructure. Both systems are very resistant and they differ only with the aesthetic result. Metal and ceramic works are recommended for side and back parts of the jaw.

Recommendations concerning the day of the surgery.
The recommendations presented below describe all limitations for the patient after the treatment:

  • a patient must keep the dressing bitten for about an hour after the treatment,
  • a patient must put ice on the implant area until the late evening (also next day),
  • for two hours after the treatment a patient can suck an ice cube to keep the oral cavity maximally chilled,
  • a patient cannot eat any warm meals on the day of the treatment,
  • for about 4 weeks a patient cannot bite any hard food with the implant area,
  • a patient must keep a very careful hygiene of the oral cavity.

Perfect implantation planning is ensured by computer systems creating three dimensional bone image and conducting a virtual implantation before a real one. These systems are used in the whole curing process. The facilitate system used in Cichoń Stomatology allows for effective and accurate planning of implants localisation, along with their size, number and a kind of connectors. Pre-operative planning guarantees that a patient spend less time on a dental chair. Additionally, it ensures an immediate equipment with periodetical prothetic reconstruction.

Unfortunately, in most cases (abnormal jaw and lower jaw growth, badly cured teeth) it is hard to speak about prevention. It is crucial to take care of it and hygiene alone is not enough. It is necessary to make a periodic visits in a professional dental surgery.

Please remember that regular control visits (at least every 6 months) enhance successful treatment and allow to keep your guarantee.
